Bombing in Bogotá could have been prevented

By June 27, 2017

The terrorist act perpetuated this past Sunday, June 18th at the Andino Shopping Complex in Bogota was attributed to nine people allegedly linked to the People’s Revolutionary Movement (MRP), a domestic terror organization, according to the General Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police.

This group has been blamed for least 14 bomb attacks in Bogotá and Pereira since 2015. However, the most recent attack was the first to claim victims, ending the lives of three women. The terrorists have been captured and will now face charges of criminal conspiracy to commit crime, terrorism, murder, simple kidnapping and aggravated theft.

According to Colombia’s Attorney General, Néstor Humberto Martínez, some individuals in the group were detained previously and found to be in possession of explosive devices and maps of buildings in Bogotá. However a judge let them free on the argument that the devices had not been used and therefore no crime was committed.
